What you need to do…

  1. Contact KCBVL
    • Contact KC Boys Volleyball League expressing interest in starting a boys volleyball team
    • KC Boys Volleyball League will provide you with resources to get your team off the ground & answering any initial questions you may have
  1. Recruit Boys to Play
    • HS League: Open to 7th – 12th graders / Middle School League open to 4th-8th graders
    • If a school has 16+ players, we suggest running a second team
    • All players must be enrolled in the same high school. 7th & 8th graders must attend a middle school that directly feeds into that high school
  1. Find a Coach/Team Rep
    • This can be the same person…parent, teacher, etc.
    • Responsibilities include but not limited to: being the contact person for KC Boys Volleyball League directors to schedule game, collecting player dues/paying team dues, & scheduling practice time
  1. Talk to Your Athletic Director
    • Ask about using gym space for games
    • Ask about using gym space for practice – suggested (but not limited to) 1-2 practices a week
    • Ask about using volleyball equipment – net system & volleyballs (girls volleyball program or physical education department)
    • Ask if you can market the Boys Volleyball team throughout the school – Ex. Hanging Flyers, Announcements, table outside lunchroom, run an open gym.
    • Ask if there is any funding opportunities through the school
  1. Obtain Jerseys, Balls, & Gym Space
    • Jerseys – low cost options would be using old jerseys from other sports team or getting t-shirts with numbers printed on them. You could design and create new jerseys and decide if the players pay & keep the jerseys or team fundraises and uses the jerseys for future years
    • Volleyballs – Utilize volleyballs from girls volleyball program or physical education department
    • Gym Space – Coordinate gym space from Mid-March to Mid-May for practices & games
    • Contact KC Boys Volleyball League if you have issues with these items
  1. Funding
    • Figure out what player dues will be
    • Request a budget template from KC Boys VB League if needed
  1. Sign up to be in the KC Boys VB League
    • Submit Season League form & league fee per team
    • Coach/Team Lead needs to get background screen, Impact certification, and Safesport certification
    • Players & additional Coaches will need to get registered with a HOA/USAV membership to be covered under the league insurance.

What the league fee covers…

    • Facility Insurance coverage provided by Heart of America Volleyball
  1. Scheduling
    • KC Boys Volleyball League will create match & tournament schedule in coordination with Team Reps/Coaches
  1. Officiating
    • KC Boys Volleyball League will handle the hiring, scheduling, & paying of officials
